Amtgard is a non-profit, non-sectarian
organization that is dedicated to the recreation of the Sword and
Sorcery genre as well as educational aspects of both Medieval and
Ancient cultures. Amtgard focuses largely on a Medieval-based combat
system but also encompasses the arts and sciences of the time, in a
friendly, social atmosphere.
Amtgard uses safe, foam-padded replicas of Medieval weaponry. Anyone aged fourteen years or older may compete in the martial aspect of the game but we welcome members of all ages. There's a place for everyone.
There are 4 Magic using classes available to novice players. All these classes can use daggers without any magic penalties. They all can use short swords, long swords, staves, with some magic penalties. None of the classes can wear armor. These classes are:
Bard-They can use medium shields, and have good control magic.
Druid-They can use small shields, spears, bows, and have good combat and protection magic. They also gain some immunities in later levels.
Healer-They can use medium shields, hinged weapons, and have good healing and protection magic.
Wizard-They can use spears, and have very good combat and protection magic.

There are 6 fighting classes available to novice players. All of these classes can use short swords, long swords, and daggers. Other weapons can be used as listed.
Archer-Long bows, armor, small shields in later levels, and gain battle lives to 5
Assassin-Bows, thrown weapons, and small shields and armor in later levels. Assassins also have other traits found in the rules link.
Barbarian-Use all melee weapons, thrown weapons, and bows in later levels. Can use armor and large shields. Barbarians also have other traits found in the rules link.
Monk-Pole arms, staves, and thrown weapons. They have no armor or shields, but can heal themselves and can block missles with their hands. They also have immunities gained at different levels as found in the rules link.
Scout-Bows, thrown weapons, staves. They can use armor and small shields. They have other traits found in the rules link.
Warrior-Can use all melee weapons, and can use throwing javelins, heavy armor and large shields. Other traits are found in the rules link.
